I2P support forum

I have found a clearnet list of I2P sites but only two or three of these links still work.

One problem seems to be that my Firefox (ESR) doesn’t seem to wait for a proper answer from the proxy but instead retries with https://... which will fail without chance. Anybody got a solution for that? (I played with timeout settings but to no avail, fallback-to-https=false)

But even if I use a jump service, most of the servers from the list appear to have ceased to exist.

Which takes me to the final question: What is the actual state of the I2P network? Are there still other sites besides tracker2.postman.i2p?

It depresses me that there doesn’t seem to be any content to talk of, and that apparently nobody cares.

PS. i2pbote.i2p seems not being accessible, and even zzz.i2p (which actually IS accessible) is being declared inaccessible by stats.i2p jump service. That is a little... unsatisfying, to say the least.

I thought it was me.

Not complaining, just making an objective observation. I'm new so my 'lists' are still growing, but so far most addresses in my router AB don't connect to anything, and what I do find is mostly outdated.

I am running I2P on an older platform using Ubuntu and whose only other purpose in life is running "BOINC/Rosetta" shared-computing so it won't hurt to leave this running for a while and see what happens. I do see traffic coming & going so I assume this is being used by someone or something, somewhere.

But maybe it's just me.

Automated indexes Programs search the part of I2P visible to them and generate lists of the respective accessibility of all websites found.

Search engines in I2P are privately owned. Expectations should therefore not be based on the search engines of the large corporations on the Internet. Sometimes it takes days or weeks for new articles to be indexed - if they are to be included.

I was not able reach any of your references (besides some of them officially ceased to exst). I got a well-integrated node, I mean, it's more than 18 hours incorporated.

Sorry, but each of the sites listed is currently online (and my router has been online half as long as yours). The link in the brackets should show that as well. Obviously there is a glitch somewhere in your configuration. I suggest you take another look. I would start on a hunch by turning off extensions like "HTTPS everywhere" in Firefox.

With a lot of effort, you can reach individual eepsites - which is not easy, because censorship always seems to take precedence if the site has even slightly objectionable content.

All in all, though, it has to be said that hardly any site has any meaning beyond a blog format. If you were looking for an auction platform, for example, you probably wouldn't find it. I2P might have gained some significance, but in an effort not to be a source of contention, the result is no match for Tor or Freenet.

What censorship then? Who was in charge of whom? What are you talking about? Why don't you ask the people who have been here longer and take the necessary time to study the net and its peculiarities? You are probably the 30000 and fifth one who succinctly complains that the other participants, who didn't know about your existence until yesterday, don't respond in advance to your concerns, which even you don't seem to know that well. Again for you, young friend, I2P is a P2P network and moreover anonymous, with the aim of establishing a freer society. Peer-to-peer means in this context that every single participant is responsible for himself and has to promote his cause, if he or she depends on others. You will not get support for auction platforms here in the forum, because there are already perfectly formed on the Internet like sand by the sea and there the real professionals are playing, who know how to secure a competitive advantage. We, on the other hand, once had a platform from the Tor network with an I2P connection, on which an unbelievable number of people asked their neighbors how they could best rob their neighbors without them noticing. I don't release my bandwidth for such nonsense. In the past ten years, we have had different varieties of social websites, but users have ignored most of them. Now, one might consider whether these sites should have been better advertised to the public, or whether we need to replace the local users, or just bring ordinary people from the Internet here. Probably it will be a mixture of both, but it is more than difficult to convince "normal" people that I2P is not the same mess as other darknets. A lot of people associate the darkent with crime and instead of using the anonymizing net for freedom of speech and building some kind of utopia, they come here in search of the quick euro and create the opposite. Real humanity breaks through because individuals don't feel threatened by the threat of punishment in the ostensible anonymity. Perhaps we should all try to approach the matter a little more constructively.

I have the same problem: Most sites are not available most of the time. This site (i2pforum) is available sporadically, and just might disappear before I finish typing this post. I've already gone through my settings and tweaked a number of things; I got some small speed improvements, but no change in availability of sites. Also, in the last few months, I2PSnark is getting more and more "Tracker Errors", and usually not connecting to all the peers that it reports present.

So, does anyone have any useful suggestions of things I can tweak to get more sites available more of the time?

The I2PForum logs out logged in users too fast, this is a known problem, that administrators have not yet been able to solve. In general I recommend to enter your own text in an editor and copy it into the form field of the website only after it is matured and saved. This applies to all sites in I2P.

As a default setting, three hops per tunnel were set by the project management for each application, except for the exploratory tunnels which use two hops.
This three hops setting adds up to twelve (12) hops (i.e. twelve different I2P nodes) for a full round trip from client to server and back.

The slowest hop in the tunnel determines the flow rate. For this reason, experienced users reduce the hops to the required number on a case-by-case basis and also increase them again. Reducing the number of hops does not increase the transfer rate per se, but it does reduce the probability of hitting one or more flow limiters.

The three-hop protection level was chosen to protect static objects such as websites or permanent distributors (of explosive leaks …) with a 24/7 attack surface.

- 1-Hop-Tunnel :: With only one remote router in a tunnel, the user has both plausible deniability and basic anonymity as long as he is not up against an internal adversary. However, if the adversary ran a sufficient number of routers such that the single remote router in the tunnel is often one of those compromised, it would be able to launch the statistical traffic analysis attack mentioned above.

- 2-Hop-Tunnel :: With two or more remote routers in a tunnel, the cost of the traffic analysis attack increases because many remote routers would have to be compromised to attach it.

- 3-Hop (or more) Tunnel :: To reduce vulnerability to some specific attacks, three or more hops are recommended for the highest protection. Recent studies also conclude that more than three hops do not provide additional protection.
